Huhtala Shell
This is currently our only option for fuel. The trail is not beginner friendly and needs prolonged cold to freeze the many wet areas along the trail. The gas station closes 9pm sharp. Also a Dunkin’s and a small package store there with food Monday – Friday from 11am-1pm Package store is open until 9pm (198 Patriots Rd. East Templeton MA 01438)
From the south, after you go under rt 2 and travel through Templeton State Forest you will come back on to the RR bed. Turn right and follow the RR bed back to the end where it meets rt 2. Take a left here and follow the marked trail out to Huhtala.
From the north Take ITS 71 South you will go over the big bridge over the Otter River and through the baseball field. After the rt 202 road crossing you will be back up on the RR bed. Follow the RR bed past the ITS 71 signs staying on the RR bed, follow the RR bed back to the end where it meets rt 2. Take a left here and follow the marked trail out to Huhtalas.

Plenty of parking Bathrooms and bar when open. Easy to find, instead of turning into Lake Dennison turn up the road across the street. Mill Glenn Rd. at the end of this road turn left. Snowbound is 3/4 mile up on the right.
From the trail follow the trail and directions to the old Waterville gas. The trail is off this on the right. Look for the signs. (130 Old Baldwinville Rd. Winchendon, MA)
Lake Dennison Parking
There is parking at Lake Dennison Recreational area which has direct trail access to ITS71 and beyond.
