The seventh seasonal meeting for the Coldbrook Snowmobile
Club was held on Monday, March 3, 2008 at 7:30p.m. at the Brickyard Restaurant
and billiards in
The first order of business was the presentation of the treausrer's report which was given by Gerry Balchuinas in the absence of treasurer, Chuck Reed. The bills paid out, presented for payment, and the monies taken in from the sale of SAM memberships were accepted after the matters were presented to the membership and a motion was made, seconded, and a verbal vote accepted the report.
The second agenda matter was the groomers report which informed the membership present that no more grooming would be taking place this season unless a significant amount of snow has fallen and the need to groom is evident. A special thanks was given to Graves Concrete by president Balchuinas as Graves Concrete is responsible for donating supplies for maintenance and repair to the groomers as well as use of their facility to perform necessary repairs and maintenance.
The next topic presented by Gerry Balchuinas and Dean Zuppio was the progress of the gates needed to fulfill the club's obligation to the SYMS grant. Materials are being purchased to make the gates which need to be a top priority for the club as the new groomer purchased from the SYMMS monies is up and running.
The department of Conservation and Recreation has checked for the existence of all of the club's groomers as there will now be a requirement to register such with the state of MA. The cost should not be more than the cost to register a snowmobile. Some side discussion took place regarding whether or not the groomers may be register by their weight.
The next topic presented by Gerry Balchuinas and groomer operator, Phil Cormier, was the experience the two had with the new ASV groomer in the trestle area. There remains areas in this location which need some work this off season in order for the ASV groomer to make more economical passes through this area as an ice wall was a significant obstacle for the vehicle when trying to travel in this area after successfully making it under the trestle.
The next topic regarding a proposed radar run and snodeo to be held at Camp Collier in Gardner on Sunday, March 9, 2008 from 10am to 3pm. Club president Gerry Balchuinas detailed what will be taking place during this event, what type of volunteer help would be necessary, and how the registration and racing will take place. The costs of admission, racing fees, and the date and time will be available on the club's website.
He also thanked the generosity of the sponsors of the event.
The matter of new business regarding an upcoming meat raffle was presented by member, Glenn Whitney, who is willing to change the date due to the availability of membership and because of the upcoming barbecue season. The date has been changed to April 12th 7 pm at the Brickyard
Gerry Balchuinas and Dean Zuppio combined to report the successes on the recently held events of a Sunday breakfast and lunch combined with riding at the Coldbrook Country Club in Barre as well as a spur of the moment poker run held yesterday, Sunday 3/2. The breakfast and lunch netted two hundred eighty-five dollars while the poker run netted one hundred seventy-five dollars.
In closing, member Glenn Whitney presented a flyer
regarding an upcoming event called the North Quabbin Outdoor Experience to be
held on April 6, 2008 at the Elks Lodge in
