On Monday, January 4, 2010, the Coldbrook Snowmobile Club held
its fifth monthly meeting of this season at the King Phillip Restaurant in
Phillipston, MA at 7:30p.m..
The membership was given an opportunity to review a copy of the monthly
treasurer's report and afforded the opportunity to ask questions. Club
member Bobby Cox asked club vice-president Dean Zuppio the current status of
paid membership and SAM Decals. Club vice-president Zuppio answered by
stating that the current paid membership is currently at three hundred
thirty with six hundred SAM decals already purchased.. After a motion by
Robin Briner which was seconded by Dave Balchuinas, the treasurer's report
was accepted by a unanimous verbal vote.
Club president Gerry Balchuinas gave the report on the condition and
readiness of the club's fleet of groomers by stating that all of the club's
groomers are up and running. There is only one groomer waiting for a part
to arrive and be installed, but this will not prevent such from being used.
The ASV groomer has already groomed areas in Lake Dennison state Park in
Winchendon. The northern Tucker has groomed areas near the railroad bed and
Templeton State Park with good results.
Club president Gerry Balchuinas and board of directors member Louis
Brassard urged members to approach the groomers with caution when riding on
the same trails. Assistance was also sought of the membership for those
interested in opening the gates for the groomers to save time for the
groomers who otherwise would need to exit and re-enter their respective
groomers to accomplish this task.
The next item on the agenda was the trail report given by
club president Gerry Balchuinas. The new trail near the Coldbrook Country
Club in Barre has been cleared, but the riding is rough in this area.
Members wishing to ride this new trail were encouraged to use much slower
than normal speeds due to the "bumpy" conditions. Club president
Balchuinas asked if riders could purchase a small hand saw and cut
overhanging branches along the trails where necessary.
Club president Balchuinas announced that the proposed vintage ride which
was to be held on January 9, 2010 in Lake Dennison State Park in Winchendon
was canceled due to the snow level not being sufficient. Club Secretary
Michael Roy was permitted an opportunity at this time to briefly explain the
state regulation for "packed" snow amounts in order to hold this event in a
state park.
Club president Balchuinas went on to mention that the club will be
hosting a spaghetti supper at the Baldwinville Legion on the evening
of Saturday, January 16, 2010. Purchasing tickets through the club's
website and Paypal was encouraged as ticket sales have been slow. Another
event the club will be hosting is scheduled for Saturday, January 23, 2010
and this will be a ride and dine experience with a ride from Lake Dennison
State Park's beach area in Winchendon to the King Phillip Restaurant in
Phillipston.. The cost for this event which includes an all you can eat
buffet is seventeen dollars per person and tickets can be purchased through
club president Balchuinas or through the club's website.
The club is planning to hold radar runs this season once the ice is thick
enough as one of the proposed locations has a current thickness of ten
inches. Please check the club website for details on these radar runs in
the very near future.
Club president Balchuinas is also in the process of planning a pig roast
at the Snowbound Club as he and board of directors member Louis
Brassard have a scheduled meeting this month with the organizers. The date
for the event will be February 13, 2010 with tickets costing between ten and
twelve dollars depending on the particulars which will be determined at
their upcoming meeting.
On the Saturday before the Super Bowl in February, club vice-president
Dean Zuppio is planning to conduct a club sponsored poker run. All of the
sites have yet to be determined, but many of the sites will be the same
as in previous years.
Club vice-president Dean Zuppio informed the members present that the
current ticket sales for the TV raffle to be given away at the February club
meeting is currently at two thousand two hundred dollars.
An order of new business was proposed by club vice-president Dean Zuppio
to consider purchasing a "cook" trailer. Research into this proposal by
vice-president Zuppio has yielded a complete trailer located in Maine at a
cost of three thousand four hundred dollars. Club vice-president Zuppio is
prepared to front the cost of the purchase and a repayment plan to him was
explained. This proposal was met with mixed results as members discussed
the need for permits, backing from an established restaurant/cooking
facility, and responsibilities regarding the storage, upkeep, and supplying
of this vehicle for events. Also, a major concern was the volunteers needed
to run the operation of this "cook" trailer during its usage. After several
back and forth discussions took place, first lady Dawn Balchuinas asked that
a motion be made to purchase this type of a trailer be held off until the
first meeting of next season. The motion was made, seconded, and a show of
hands vote accepted the motion to delay the decision to purchase said
trailer until the first meeting of next season.
A motion was made by club member Bobby Cox to accept the monthly minutes
from the December club meeting. It was quickly seconded and a verbal vote
unanimously accepted the minutes.
A 50/50 raffle was drawn at this time and the winner received a cash
award of forty-eight dollars.
The fifth monthly meeting for the Coldbrook Snowmobile Club adjourned at
8:40p.m..
